Local Area Response Event
LACoST Services delivered their 2nd LAR event, on Tuesday 24th Jan 2006 between 12-2.00pm. The purpose of the event is to inform, involve and empower local people, community groups and local businesses.
On the day there was feedback questionnaires completed which aimed to identify key local concerns, what local people, local businesses, voluntary groups think about LAP 4 area. People expressed their thoughts, ideas and suggestions about how to improve local services. Some participants who were not fluent in English spoke out in Bengali and their comments were then translated into English. |
All information, feedback and comments gathered will be forwarded to THCEN in order to support the Tower Hamlets Partnership in shaping the way service provisions are improved, developed and/or maintained in LAP 4. | Somaliland Independence Day Celebration |
This event was organised and held by London Somali Action Forum (LSAF) for the Somali residents in Tower Hamlets. It took place on Saturday the 25 th of June 2005 . The event was held in the main hall of St, George’s Town Hall,. The participants of the event were; Tower Hamlets based Somali Community of all ages & gender, those present represented; the Somali residents, LACoST Community Hub, and Executive members of the other Somali Organisations in Tower Hamlets. The total number attending were approximately 150
The main speakers of the day were; MR A A MUSA (chairman of LSAF), MR DAHIR TUKALE (representative of the Somaliland Government Office) MR AHMED MUSE GEEDI ( leader of the Somaliland opposition Party). The event was sponsored and financed by LACoST Services Community Hub, with whom we intend to develop long term working relationship.
The main purpose of the event was:

To info rm the Somali Community in Tower Hamlets about the services and training available to them.

To info rm the Tower Hamlets Somali Community about the historical significance of the day.

To encourage participation and an active role in the Development & Economical progress of LBTH.

To encourage Community Cohesion in the Tower Hamlets Partnership Programmein order for them to have voice in the decision making process.

Outcomes of the Event :
Understanding existing services provided by LSAF & partner LACoST Community Hub, and the need to sustain it.
Appreciating the need to seek funding to provide the following services: Study support classes for the Somali School Children, Cultural and religious classes for the Somali children, ESOL classes for Somali adults In Tower Hamlets.
